Yenwa Gallery proudly presents Ómúmù, a duo exhibition that weaves the distinct narratives of artists Djakou Kassi Nathalie & Ozangeobuoma Prince Orlu into a cohesive exploration of fertility and the essence of womanhood. At the heart of Ómúmù lies a profound reflection on the creative and generative powers of women, underscored by the artists' shared focus on the body's expressiveness and inherent beauty.

Prince's acrylic paintings serves as a homage to the female form, specially celebrating the full-bodied figure in various  states of repose and dynamism. His work, inspired by the emotional and physical journey of pregnancy, encapsulates the mixed reality of anticipation, joy, and the occasional strife that accompanies the path to motherhood. Employing a palette that oscillates between soothing pastels and vibrant warm hues, Prince's figures—often depicted in moments of solitude or contemplation—are enveloped in a serene aura, despite the underlying themes of pain and fluctuation. The inclusion of natural elements, such as trees and leaves, alongside the textured scribbles and strokes that mimic sketches, infuse his works with a raw, organic vitality and further imbues his pieces with a symbolic representation of life and continuity.

Nathalie, through her earthy medium of clay and bonded stone, offers a tactile exploration of female agency and embodiment. Her work, characterised by an attentive focus on body language, features full figured sculptures that are portrayed in states of expectation, introspection and observation. She boldly introduces the figures of men who engage in discussion; subtly hinting at the societal narratives woven around women. Her incorporation of masked carvings introduces an element of intrigue and depth and speaks to the multifaceted layers that define the female experience. Nathalie’s work, vibrant and textured, examines not only the physicality of being but also the emotional and spiritual landscapes women traverse.

Ómúmù unites the works of Djakou Kassi Nathalie & Ozangeobuoma Prince Orlu, engaging viewers in a dialogue that goes beyond form, colour, and theme
to explore the complexities of the female experience and life's universal cycles. Their distinctive yet complementary styles highlight humanity's shared journey, emphasising beauty, fortitude, and diversity. This exhibition invites reflection on both personal and collective experiences, creating a narrative of unity and understanding that extends beyond the gallery space.
