Art X Lagos

06 NOV. - 09 NOV. 2024

Yenwa Gallery marks its debut at the landmark 10th edition of ART X Lagos with INVISIBLE FOUNDATIONS, a group exhibition featuring Shalom Kufakwatenzi (Zimbabwe), Damilola Opedun (Nigeria), and Victoria Oniosun (Nigeria/UK).
A deliberate gesture toward intra-continental dialogue, this presentation positions Lagos as a vital meeting point for artists exploring how material, memory, and identity shape the visible and invisible structures of contemporary life. Through paint, textile, and performance, the works on view examine transformation, belonging, and the unseen architectures of power.

Shalom Kufakwatenzi’s tactile installations, such as Patriarchal Bull** and A Point in Time, evoke the weight of land, labor, and resistance, translating social and emotional histories into fiber and form. Damilola Opedun’s Invisible Foundations and Silent Construction transform spirituality into a visual architecture where light and color embody renewal. Victoria Oniosun’s abstract and figurative paintings, including The Sunday Ritual and For How Long?, explore womanhood, introspection, and emotional mapping across geographies.

INVISIBLE FOUNDATIONS extends Yenwa Gallery’s curatorial mission to champion artists who challenge form and expand the narrative of contemporary African art. Following exhibitions and fair presentations in Johannesburg and Miami, this Lagos debut underscores Yenwa’s commitment to dialogue, discovery, and the evolving language of African creative expression.
